Political division
The Republic of Kalmykia is a sunject of Russian Federation, and is part of the Southern Administrative District. The capital city is Elista.
The territory of the republic is 76.1 thoudsand square km (0.4% of Russia's territory).
By January 1, 2001, the republic consists of 11 administrative regions, 3 cities, 112 rural municipal formations, 273 rural settlements.
